Keep in mind that this is only an introduction to text effects. However, we need to start somewhere, so without any further blah, blah…. Using the Artistic Text Tool , type whatever you want. Before we start embellishing our text, it would be really cool to add some texture in the background and get rid of that depressing white void.
Go to the top menu, File and choose Place… to add a more interesting metal background. Download it from here: Brushed Metal Texture. Position it as you please.
Move to the Context Menu above and, choose Bitmap as the fill Type. A browser window will popup. You can manipulate the position and dimensions of this texture by using the transformation handles. To make sure this texture will tile as seamlessly as possible without spending half an hour of crazy editing, select Mirror from the Extend menu. Now, we have a nice base to get started. Keep your text selected and from the Layers Panel , select the FX icon located at the bottom. Then, the Layer Effects Panel will appear.
From the left menu select Outer Shadow and use these settings:. Tip: Tick the Scale with Object option at the bottom-left corner of the panel, to make sure your effects settings will scale proportionally as you resize your object. Select the 3D option from the left menu and use these settings for the first section:. Looks great so far huh? When you get to the Profile curve, draw something similar to the graphic above. See how easy it is? A couple of minutes before, we just had a dumb text over a white background.

I have been seeing a few requests for help recently, from people wanting to know how to fade an image from one edge.
Be it from the left or right side or from the top or bottom of an image. Some people wanting it to just fade in opacity and others wanting it to fade to a complete removal of pixels.
Mainly so they can add text over the fading areas, so it is easier to read. This is well presented and demonstrated with clear instructions and is a good refresher for people like me so thank you for doing these tutorials. When it comes to blurring the background of an image or a composition, most tutorials I see overlook the Field Blur filter. I think the Field Blur gives you a bit more control, so I would advise checking it out, when you next want the background looking blurred.
In the first part of my beginners look at Affinity Publisher. I looked at setting up a new document and using a Master Page. This time I will be looking at using extra Master Pages and even have pages using two Master Pages at the same time. Three different ways to edit the same image, you just select the way that will suit your image, be it of wildlife or something else.
A basic look at how to use Frame Text and Artistic Text options and the Studios that contain the settings and options you will need to get the results you want. While at the same time discovering some issues with making a Table and how I found answers to those issues.
There are many resources on the Internet, that new users of Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher may be put off from checking out and using. This is just not the case, there is so much free stuff out there that non-Photoshop users can take advantage of.
I have included, hyper-links to many video tutorials about using these resources. A few by me but most by other people. Many folk for whatever reason, seem to have a problem with Dropbox.
I am trying out also using Google Docs. First time, so if you get any problems let me know. Although this is an Affinity Publisher tutorial, both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo use most if not all the same guidelines and guides.
So, even though they may have these features in different places, they will work in the same way. In this tutorial I will be looking at the aids that can be found, to help with your projects layout and alignment.
